Church Planting & Strengthening

Why We Prioritize Church Planting and Strengthening?

We believe that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is good news for the whole world. Therefore, we want to multiply disciples of Jesus, communities that follow Jesus, and churches that follow, proclaim, and demonstrate the love of Jesus. Because the planting of new churches is the best way to reach new people in any given community, Liberti churches are committed to supporting church planting, both locally and internationally.

"Dozens of denominational studies have confirmed that the average new church gains most of its new members (60-80%) from the ranks of people who are not attending any worshiping body, while churches over 10-15 years of age gain 80-90% of new members by transfer from other congregations." Tim Keller, Why Plant Churches

In the US, churches are closing faster than churches can be planted. The Apostle Paul both planted and strengthened already-planted local churches (Acts 14:22; 15:41; 16:5; 18:23). We invest in the flourishing of both established churches and church plants through ongoing coaching, training, and retreats to support those answering the call to ministry.

Church Planting & Strengthening : How We Do It

  • Pastoral Cohorts

Our Cohorts are built for peer-to-peer accountability and vulnerability; because, unless you have both, you cannot truly experience the benefits of either. Without accountability, revealing our failures, temptations, and fears is little more than a quiet time with a self-help book. Similarly, when there is accountability without the invitation to be vulnerable, we can be tempted to a terrible isolation born of fears of failure and humiliating exposure.

Cohorts bring together pastors who are experiencing the same pains and joys of vocational ministry for mutual blessing and encouragement. We share each other's burdens and we celebrate each other's successes. By the grace of God, as iron sharpens iron, we sharpen another for Christ's glory.

  • Full Council of Pastors

While the Cohorts are focused on relational investment for integrity and character, the Full Council of Pastors is geared towards operational and administrative equipping. During these regular meetings we come together to discuss and confirm what we will do together as a Communion of Churches such as: plan for things to come, such as local and global initiatives; invite outside leaders to share their wisdom with us; invest in leadership development of our staff, elders, deacons, and future leaders; share gifts and resources and ministry lessons among our pastors, leadership teams, and churches.

Together, we accomplish far more than we could do alone.

  • Leader Development

Churches are more likely to succeed when their leaders are both capable and confident. So we invest diligently in our Interns and Residents: they will form the next generation of missionaries, church planters, and church leaders near and far. Rather than planting isolated churches, we plant and strengthen churches that are formed in community and welcome others into that community both locally and globally.

In addition to our own internal assessments and coaching, we also utilize the leadership assessments performed by Church Multiplication Ministries to gain a better understanding of our future leaders' strengths and weaknesses so that we can better support them before, during, and after those initial years of church building.

Testimonials

  • Joshua Macha

The opportunity the cohorts provide to openly share the struggle and heartache of pastoral ministry is life-giving. There is plenty of help and encouragement, but the heart of the blessings is the invitation to name what troubles my soul. Sharing and hearing of the good that God is doing reminds me the Kingdom is larger than my church.

  • Evan Curry

The Liberti Communion has provided me significant relational, technical, and financial support. Crucially, the Communion has not only shown great care for me as a planter but also as a person. Due to the Communion, I have grown in the gospel and become more enthusiastic for the missions of Jesus.
