The group provides a Gospel-centered understanding of anxiety and reconstruction of the way anxiety is often understood. The goal of the group is to first help individuals become more aware of anxiety and stress in their lives and to secondly understand how to more effectively cope with anxiety and stress.
Through personal exercises, group sharing and interactions, and relaxation exercises participants will walk through core themes in anxiety and stress with the guidance of a professional counselor trained in this area. Topics of the group include but are not limited to:
- Understanding the differences between anxiety, fear and worry
- Uncovering possible root causes of anxiety and how it is manifested
- Learning to cope with stress and anxiety in a fast-paced world through relaxation and
breathing and mindfulness techniques
- Teaching acceptance of the discomfort that comes with becoming more aware
- Discovering Jesus’ heart for those who struggle with anxiety and the freedom that can
come in worshipping Him and seeking His Kingdom amidst the storm
The group counselor will help participants put the material and principles into practice and will facilitate a time of sharing and discussion so that group members will be encouraged and challenged to grow as well as supposed by fellow group members. Most of all, this Anxiety and Stress Management Group will provide a perspective of acceptance of anxiety in a way that is Christ-centered and gospel-driven.
Lastly, know that you are not alone in suffering anxiety and stress. There is a reason why it is the #1 mental health disorder and that 1 of 6 people suffer from anxiety.
